Who ran for office in November?

Votes are cast by district, and which district you’re in depends on the office you’re looking at.

U.S. Senate
We’re all in the same district here. There are two senators from each state serving in Washington at any given time, and their terms are “staggered” so both seats don’t turn over in the same year. This year, Judd Gregg is retiring from his post. We all have the same set of candidates to choose from, and we each pick one.

U.S. Congress
There are two districts in New Hampshire that each send a representative to Washington, and they both come up for a vote every two years.

N.H. Governor
There is only one governor of every state. New Hampshire elects a new governor every two years, which is very unusual (most states let them serve longer).

N.H. Executive Council
We have 5 Executive Councilors in New Hampshire, which means there are five different voting districts for this office. The Executive Council is elected every two years, along with the governor and other office holders.
